1) Two views of God reflected in Johnathan Edwards' and Ben Franklin
The contrast between the Puritan spirit and the spirit of Rationalism can be fairly represented in the different conceptions of the deity found in the writings of the preacher Johnathan Edwards and the widely talented Ben Franklin. Puritans like Edwards believed in a very personal God, one who knew and judged and would punish severely the wickedness of a humanity that was born in sin. It was the proper duty of us all, Edwards believed, to obey without question the will of God as revealed in the bible. On the other hand a Rationalist like Franklin believed that God’s purposes were to be understood by use of the human reason, particularly as guided by scientific laws and truths.
In today’s world, a woman’s right to abortion would be opposed by Puritans as being contrary to God’s teaching; it would be in line with the thinking of Rationalism to allow a woman to follow her own reasonable thinking in this matter.
3) Franklin’s Rationalism can be seen in his description of his attempts at moral perfection. He realizes the difficulties in achieving perfection, but he goes about it systematically and reasonably. First he lists from his reading those qualities that are generally consider to be virtues ( temperance, industry, humility, etc.) then Franklin provides for each virtue some major practical ways by which each virtue can be made into a habit in his life. For instance, under the virtue “Silence,” Franklin provides the “precept” “Speak not but what my benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.”
4) My list of thirteen virtues
Determination
Courage
Honesty
Dependability
Loyalty
Respect
Obedience
Thoughtfulness
Generosity
Patience
Tolerance
Open-mindedness
Modesty
No I don’t think list of virtues are enough to produce moral perfection. Two other necessary things are guidance and example of others. Our actions depend upon not just a list of general qualities but also, I think, upon the help we get from others in pointing the right way an in serving as a model for the kind of person that we would like to become.

Total Depravity or Organic sin
In this passage of The Puritans I understood that all people ware meant to go to hell. Only the chosen ones would be safe but still God would have you over the fire of hell and you would never know when one day you would wake up to notice you are Know in the fire pit. In the small clip we saw they usage many forms to expressions to explain why sow many people are sin. One of them is the apple of Adam and Eve.
The puritans believe that every one was borne sinner and that there was no way that some one could earn Gods grease. Every one was going to go to hell and only the ones that Jesus decided to die for are the ones that ware going to be save and that the rest no matter what they do they ware going to burn in the blazing fire of hell. You never knew when you were going to be in Hell because you are only being held by the hand of God. God could decide any moment to drop you in to hell sins he is the one that hold you over Hells fire.
You would drop sow into the fire sins you would be as heavy as led that there would not be nothing that would stop you from falling into hell. Nothing that you have done in life would help you or save you from the gates of hell. God looks at us as we look a serpent. He thinks that we are abonation and that his anger at us make him think that why he hold us up from the pit of hell.
This all happen because Adam and Eve eat the apple and every one after that was consider to be in sin and there was no way they could fix that. Because God had given everything to Adam and Eve and the only rule he had told them it was broken. That rule was not to eat the apple. After that he send Jesus to save some people and the only ones that ware going to be save ware the ones that ware call the voice of God. This people would priest and spread the word of God. This persons would make thing there way and if some one would disagree with them they would kill them and tell the people that God had told them to do so.
